The Low End Image is my affordable artwork project.  I offer prints, drawings, and paintings inspired by my interest in the intersection of pop culture, traditional 2d image making processes, and their appearance in the irl and digital environments.

This project reframes paintings, drawings, and prints of pop culture figures as objects akin to band merch rather than as out of reach, high end Art. These works are not kitsch or parody, but shared icons worthy of formal attention and appreciation at accessible prices. By offering works priced between $5 and $200, The Low End Image challenges the prevailing notion that art must be exclusive to be valuable. These works are for those who live outside the artworld’s economic structures but still crave the emotional and intellectual engagement that images can offer. Their subject matter acknowledges our shared desire to consume fun glimpses of the culture rather than the dower, complicated philosphies often presented in contemporary art spaces.

Inspired by influential 20th and 21st century theory and phiilosophy such as Walter Benjamin's The Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction, Baudrillard's Simulacra and Simulation, and others, The Low End Image embraces the idea that reproducibility and fast, prolific painting and drawing have the potential to bring art to everyone, regardless of income or social status.  I take for granted that traditional 2d art objects are worth producing, disseminating, and consuming in the 21st century regardless of the proliferation of digital images. I do not see the physical and digital worlds of images as opposed to one another.  Instead, they shape and reinforce viewer/consumer expeirence, which continues in both spheres.

Oil Transfer Prints

The artist Paul Klee developed the oil transfer process in the 1920s.  I love its simultaneous simplicity and complexity and over the past few years it has become one of the most enjoyable parts of my practice.  When I combined this technique with pop culture subject matter, I noticed how meaningful it is to explore multiples, the intersection of high and low brow media, and even capitalist versus anti-capitalist models of art consumption using this method, which facilitates affordability, intellectual reflection, and aesthetic appeal in equal measure.

Paintings

I offer a handful of paintings made over the past decade at The Low Brow Image.  Paintings are inherently more laborious, and usually the things I am currently working on I am reluctant to let go of.  If you are interested in paintings not pictured here or at The Low Brow Image site, please send me an email to discuss.

Drawings

I have hundreds of drawings that I am willing to sell after a lifetime of compulsive image making.  I'll feature a selection of available drawings here, and I welcome those curious about my drawing inventory to schedule a studio visit and flip through available works.
